Chinese Conspiracy
Recently a business woman suggested that there is a conspiracy to change public perception of Chinese products. She believes that the recalls on everything from pet food to children’s toys is actually choreographed so that the volume of recalls creates a reaction in the market.
Let’s say she is correct. Let’s say someone is looking to engage China in business warfare by crippling some of their production.
I say, BAD MOVE. Really bad.
Realize if the Chinese view the manufacturing and sales of inexpensive and non-essential products as problematic, the only course of action is to pursue creating other products such as heavy equipment, cars, motorcycles, electronics/computer products, etc.
This is a direction that many in China have already pursued. However, the pace of investment may increase as well as service related production. Even worse, they may stop making many of the essential products Americans crave.
The ultimate suprise may be that when all is said and done, no matter what’s happening in the market, shrewed business people learn lessons from what’s happening and make new strategies.
Don’t assume the Chinese are any different.
